TechCrunch commentary on Open Source and Proptietary
Words matter and the title of this TechCrunch article "The eternal struggle between open source and proprietary software" implies some Herculean conflict across the wasteland of the internet... the reality is more mundane, but still worth a read.
There are a couple of proprietary software vendors named but the main gist is what some Open Source based companies are having to resort to do wrt licensing changes to try and protect their market and/or force proprietary companies that build software or services off their base code to contribute back... There is also some insight into how larger 'listed' companies behave (hint, they're psychopaths...). The TL:DR is that you always need to be careful with what you use and support and don't conflate Open Source with its close cousin Fauxpen Source.
