IEC & ISO prove openness and consensus maintained in ballot resolution meeting

The March 2008 edition of the IEC e-Tech newsletter offers the above headline with the content here.

A very funny read as absolutely no mention of the contention around the bulk ballot is made... what we do have is "By removing redundancies and by editing, the comments were reduced [from 3500] to 1027 dispositions proposed by the document editor for processing at the BRM" followed closely by "Of the accepted resolutions, 32 were accepted unanimously... Seven were accepted by consensus...four were accepted by majority vote. The meeting ended with a disposition on all of the comments received"

So, 43 out of 1027 were discussed and accepted, they ran out of time and the rest were accepted without discussion...

Yup... that 'openness and consensus' driven process held during a closed meeting worked real well...

To be fair, the feedback we have seen indicates that what little was accomplished was done with the best of intentions of most of the delegates but even that doesn't stop the whole thing exposing major procedural issues. The fast track process just cannot deal with proposals as substandard as ECMA-376.

We need to recognise that and continue to vote no to the fast track.
