SOPA and PIPA are full of FAIL

STOP SOPA!

The NZ Open Source Society website has gone dark today in protest of the US Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and PROTECT-IP Act (PIPA). In promoting these Acts, the US Congress is pursuing a campaign to censor the Internet to suit its corporate sponsors' interests. It is doing this even though the vast majority of its constituents (the American people) - and certainly all those elsewhere in the world who understand the implications - are opposed to them.

We have created this page to draw attention to these very poorly considered US laws with global implications for our liberty, and to shine light on the corrupt political processes behind them. Learn more at AmericanCensorship.org.

To learn more about the implications for us kiwis, see Vikram Kumar's blog and his recent guest post to the National Business Review which has attracted quite a lot of commentary from concerned New Zealanders.

Vikram Kumar is Chief Executive of InternetNZ, the non-profit organisation dedicated to protecting and promoting the Internet in New Zealand, and many of whose positions are closely aligned with those of the NZOSS.
