NZOSS AGM on Thursday, 4 August

The NZOSS 2011 AGM has been held. Thanks to all who took the time to participate.

 

The NZOSS will be holding its Annual General Meeting at 7pm this coming Thursday, 4 August. Groups connected by video and/or teleconference will be meeting at venues Auckland (at ICONZ), Wellington (at Catalyst IT) and Christchurch (at Egressive) - with meeting business to take place on Internet Relay Chat (IRC).

Positions to be elected include:

  • President
  • Vice president

 

Positions to be appointed include:

  • Treasurer
  • Secretary

 

Up to 11 council members may be nominated. Voting will be required if more than 11 nominations are received.

The Annual General Meeting is an opportunity for you to have your say as to the direction the Society takes over the next year and beyond.

In order to have your say, or to be appointed to any of our key roles, it is important that you are a current financial member.  Please follow the process documented at /join and ensure your website member ID is present on the bank deposit as a reference.  Payments must be received no later than Wednesday 3 August in order for them to be validated at the AGM to ensure your membership is current.

By joining (or renewing your membership in) the NZOSS you are showing your support for Free and Open Source Software in New Zealand in a tangible way. Your membership fee enables NZOSS to engage in the following activites
•    Educating the public about Free and Open Source software
•    Advocacy against Software Patents
•    Support local user groups and events
•    Promote and Support Free and Open Source Software in New Zealand
Individual membership of the NZOSS costs $40/year; Corporate membership costs $400/year and provides the corporation with 3 member-votes.  Payments can be made directly into the NZOSS bank account with Westpac. Alternatively you can pay the President or Treasurer in person. The New Zealand Open Source Society is registered as a charitable entity under the Charities Act 2005. Registration number CC42367.

How to participate in the AGM:

NZOSS’s AGM takes place on the official NZOSS IRC Channel:  #NZOSS on irc.nzoss.org.nz (Freenode IRC Network).  Fire up your favourite IRC Client and join us in the chatroom on time for a 7pm start.
All voting is done via our Website; all current members will have Voting privileges enabled.

Members in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch are invited to join us at our venues, which will be linked by Audioconference for the event.

Auckland: ICONZ, ICONZ House, 60 Airedale St.
Auckland Details: Metered parking is available directly outside, and there’s a pay-and-display facility across the road. By Bus, Symonds St bus stop near the intersection with Airedale/Wakefield is very close, or you can walk up the hill from Aotea Square.
The building is secured after-hours. Report to reception on the Ground Floor and visitors will be escorted periodically to the 7th floor conference room.
Wireless Internet Access will be available – bring your laptop, as it’ll help you participate both on IRC and with the voting.

Wellington: Catalyst IT, Catalyst House, 150 Willis St.
There is on street parking nearby on Willis Street and Dixon Street. It is a short walk from the Willis Street and Manners Street bus stops.
The doors to the building are locked at 6pm.  There will be someone at the door from 6:45ish until 7pm to get people to Boardroom on Level 6.

Please remember that the AGM is scheduled to start promptly at 7pm.  If you arrive at a venue after this time you may need to make contact by phone and wait for an opportunity to be let in (particularly true in Wellington and to a lesser degree in Auckland).
